Acupuncture is a Medical Procedure that involves the insertion of needles about the thickness of a human hair into specific points on the body located along what are called “Meridians” in Chinese Medical Theory. Originating in China, the therapeutic effects of acupuncture therapy have been documented for over 3000 years. It is the oldest and longest living form of medicine on our planet still in use today. The National Institute of Health (NIH) has conducted numerous studies on the Medical benefits of Acupuncture Therapy confirming it’s effectiveness in the treatment of many medical conditions. New studies are being conducted every day, showing more and more ailments in which Acupuncture effectively treats.
At Red Dragon Acupuncture we only use single use pre-sterilized surgical grade stainless steel needles. Acupuncture needles are much different that what most people are used to. Unlike a hypodermic needle used for drawing blood or giving an injection, acupuncture needles are not hollow and are the thickness of two human hairs. Therefor the sensation is quite different what most of us are accustomed to. Most often needle insertion is virtually painless.
Red Dragon Acupuncture is Nationally Certified under the “Clean Needle Technique” and exceeds guidelines in safety in every aspect. Keith Garofalo LAc is state licensed meaning he has over 3000 hours of study in acupuncture techniques and safety. Board Certified Physicians of Chinese Medicine are also required to complete continuing education credits to maintain their certification.
Red Dragon goes to great lengths to make your acupuncture experience as comfortable as possible. Most treatments consist of less than 12 needles and patients remain resting on the table for about 30-45 minutes.
Sensations typically experienced while being treated include: pressure or fullness at the needle insertion sites, the feeling of “energy” traveling along the course of the body, a deep sense of calm and relaxation, the desire to sleep (which is encouraged), and sometimes a boost in energy following the treatment. Acupuncture is a completely safe when performed by a licensed practitioner and allows the body to heal itself without any negative side effects.
